The Truth About 400MB Plans

The grand majority of small business web sites (over 93%) total an average of only 8 MB or less in size. Yet the many (business) web accounts are 400 MB in size or larger! So the logical question to ask is:

What happens to that other 392 MB that are not put to immediate use by the hosting customer?

Answer: The extra space is passed back to the server and resold to other accounts. Or to put it a bit more accurately, the extra space was never really allocated to the so-called 400 MB account. The only thing with the 400 MB number is a limit variable for the account's size.

Here's the Truth
You don't need 400 MB of disk space!
You need Features and Service that don't cost extra.
You need 50 MB or less of disk space on a fast/dependable server.
You need Ease-Of-Use.
This is what we offer!
Try us for 30 days and if you don't agree you GET YOUR MONEY BACK!

Web3Hosting.com allocates 100% of the space assigned to every account. We do not oversell our servers!

In light of this, the recent crop of 400 MB web account offerings is almost laughable. Knowing full well there are nearly no web accounts that use 400 MB of on-line data, it's little more than a gambit made by host providers to sell prospects on the perceived value of a big number. The reasoning may be that it's easier to advertise with big numbers rather than offering features of substantial value. But, regretfully the last laugh may be on the customer who actually HAS a very large web site and tries to utilizes even a moderate percent of a 400 MB account. Why? Because they soon discover their bandwidth allocation was set far too low. When people actually started to access web data on such large sites, the owners experience huge charges rung up against them in excess traffic fees (aka data transfer). This is a carnival side show shell game that host providers play, and almost always win. We don't play games with your business at Web3Hosting.com.

On the server side of this VIRTUAL world, a hosting firm can take a 400MB hosting/web space reseller account and proceed to sell 10GBs (25 times more) worth of web accounts. And this is exactly what nearly every host provider does. (Every one that we have ever come into contact with - without exception.) It's positively great from the perspective of the hosting service that only looks at the bottom line (initially), and potentially terrible for the consumer on two major fronts:

1 - The customer ends up paying month after month for a large amount of server space rarely, if ever used.
2 - Sooner or later customers are forced to live with web sites that have slow display speeds, frequent downtime and poorly supported accounts because their host providers oversell their servers to a degree dictated by nothing more than profit margins. (Ala, corporate greed.)
No matter how fat the "pipe" they're networked to (multi-T3s, OC-3, OC-23, DS3, etc.), no server is built to handle the number of simultaneous requests made to these oversold, overloaded servers, which sadly, may very well make up a good majority of the current web server landscape.

Every task on every web server is shared among all the web sites on that particular server. This is most often a single processor system. No matter how fast the clock cycle, every server system has limitations and efficiency curve drop-offs, particularly evident during peak hours.

This boils down to simple horse-sense in many ways. If you take a Lamborgini (super fast, super expensive car) and fill the trunk and every other compartment with cement, it will probably handle worse than a '68 Rambler on a hairpin curve. Web3Hosting.com's servers are never loaded beyond 65% of maximum capacity so you get higher quality at a lower price. But we didn't stop there.
Other parameters of our business model include full-featured accounts that don't force the customer to request account upgrades to get the extra features they need. Every account large or small is fully featured, thus eliminating of any sort of low end "teaser account".
